So I went on a three day cycle trip to Americade Motorcycle Rally. The Lake George Region of Upstate New York is a great place to ride and is nestled in the Adirondack Mountains. The roads in this area are curvaceous in nature and zig-zag around lakes, rivers and mountains. The area is ripe for riding on two wheels as long as Mother Nature does not stand in your way. Look forward to occasional rain, cool temperatures and when lucky, perfect sunny days that will make a mute scream with excitement. Luckily the weather on my trip consisted of one sunny day, one rainy day and one grey cloudy day. So 2 out of 3 days of good riding was worth the trek out. It’s not that I mind riding in the rain but there was so much precipitation on that intensely wet day that I felt like I was surfing on two wheels. Rainy days are the best because they make those otherwise gloomy gray cloudy days seem like rare, splendid, wondrous acts of nature. When it comes right down to it, the simple act of riding in any kind of weather creates a smile on my face. Getting on my cycle is like a miracle each and every time. It’s not a miracle like seeing my children smile or world peace but it feels pretty dam good. If you ever get a chance to trek out to Americade then don’t forget your rain gear because chances are you’ll need it but a little rain will not impede the good time that awaits you. Also on Friday or Saturday Night go hang out on Main Street at dusk. Bring a lawn chair and some good friends and chill out to the sound of mechanical ferocity as awesome cars and cycles cruise the strip. Don’t wait too long or you won’t find a good spot to hangout; the town is pact for this Rally Ritual. One last thing about Lake George, it’s filled with really cool history. Go visit Fort Ticonderoga where Benedict Arnold and Ethan Allen became revolutionary heroes. Another famous Stronghold sits in the town of Lake George. Fort William Henry is the epicenter of James Fennimore Cooper’s “Last of the Mohicans”. If you get some free time in early June head up north and see what Americade has to offer. The worst thing that can happen is you get a little wet.
